Zero calorie foods to help you lose weight? Yes, there is such a thing! And you will find how some of these are so easy to incorporate into your diet for weight loss.

Zero calorie foods are foods you can eat that your body will burn more calories when you metabolize it.


Do foods actually contain zero calories?




However, the foods mentioned are so low in calories that your body will burn them off by eating and digesting making them zero calories.


When I look for zero calories foods there needs to be under 100 calories per serving and packed with nutrients.


20 Zero Calorie Foods for Weight Loss


  1. Broccoli

As well as offering low calories, broccoli has been shown to be a cancer-fighting vegetable. It’s truly an amazing vegetable with its unique mixture of nutrients It contains a rich source of phytonutrient glucosinolates and fiber which helps aid digestion.

Digestion is key to maintaining weight.

2. Apples

Apples are very not only delicious they contain good sources of dietary fiber. A single serving alone provides 12% of the daily fiber requirement. They make a great snack to fill you up in between meals.

3. Celery

Celery is by far the best zero calorie foods and is one of those go to for me when trying to slim down.

Add them in alone (no filling here) to keep you full in between meals. It offers vitamin K, vitamin C, potassium, folate and vitamin B6.

4. Cabbage

Do you remember the cabbage soup diet?


Well, there is a reason why cabbage was the main ingredient and why so many lost weight, its essentially a zero calorie foods.


Your body will burn it off just with regular activity.

Now I do not recommend the cabbage soup diet but I do recommend adding cabbage to your diet when trying to lose weight. It’s a filling vegetable and it prevents cancer and heart disease studies show.

5. Cucumbers

Cucumbers are basically made up of water so this is no surprise it is considered a zero calorie food. Coming in high for vitamin K and molybdenum and they make a great addition to help lose weight and stay full.

6. Carrots

I’m sure you know that carrots help with eyesight but they do so much more for you. They can lower your blood glucose level and they are an all natural diuretic. That helps with your excess sodium and retained water. They’re also an anti-inflammatory.

7. Mushrooms

Mushrooms contain high levels of vitamin D which aids in the absorption of calcium in your body. Any mushrooms you choose are almost no calories and they are great to “beef up” a salad, soup or any dish.

A portabella mushroom is a great replacement for bread when having a burger.

You’ll be saving tons of calories and carbs here by one little swap of the bun.

A great healthy dessert option as it contains a ton of natural sweetness for that dessert like feel. Watermelon is also been shown to boost your metabolism!

Kale is one of those super foods! Said to be one of the most nutrient-dense foods containing high amounts of vitamin A, vitamin K, vitamin C, and antioxidants. Studies also show Kale can lower cholesterol.

My favorite zero calorie foods are lemons.

Lemons are a great source of vitamin C and hardly any calories you can add a zest of lemon to add flavor to a dish. They can also be added to a glass of water to help with indigestion and constipation.

Tomatoes are one of the healthiest foods you can eat! They have large amounts of vitamin C and other antioxidants. They also contain lycopene. Lycopene has been shown to fight cancer and ward off heart disease.

Just as mushrooms, tomatoes are a great food to beef up your salad for more volume.

Spinach is high in protein and fiber making this a great addition to your weight loss journey.

This is another go to zero calorie foods when I am trying to slim down.

Jazz up your morning smoothie with a handful of spinach or just toss it into a salad to boost your intake.

13. Asparagus

Asparagus is another superfood that had to make it on this list. Packed with nutrients including vitamin K, folate, copper, fiber, and vitamin B1.

Great to grill or add on salads for a nice crunch.

14. Cauliflower

Cauliflower is very similar to broccoli with its texture and look. Rich in Vitamins K and C and contains many antioxidants. Due to its high levels of Vitamins K and C, it is also known as an anti-inflammatory.

Swap potatoes out for cauliflower to make a lower carb version of mashed potatoes.

15. Zucchini

Zucchini is made of 95% water so it is great for weight loss. Loaded with fiber also helps aid digestion and has potassium which will help reduce blood pressure.

The great thing about zucchini is you can make “pasta” noodles. Keep those carbs down with this simple swap.

Green beans are another vegetable loaded with fiber and extremely low in calories. Provides Vitamins A, C, K, B6, and folic acid.

Like grapefruit, pineapples are rich in dietary fiber and loaded with Vitamin C. It has also been studied that pineapples help with speeding up your metabolism.
